Our EXCITING News!!!

Meet Maggie Nevaeh's soon to be Diabetic Alert Dog!!!  All that stands in the way of these two being united is a few months and $10,000.

So since Nevaeh was diagnosed in October of 2011 we have heard a lot about these DADs.  What are DADs you say?  DADs stands for Diabetic Alert Dogs and they are so AMAZING!  These dogs can detect low blood sugars, by the distinct scent, in those with diabetes!  We've always wanted one for Nevaeh because any parent wants everything that will protect and keep their child safe.  So when we've looked into getting one we always found tons of companies that are in a different state that cost $20,000 or more!

Recently, however a chain of events took place and it lead to our EXCITING news!  We learned through a local support group we are a part of that a local Type 1 Diabetic, Zakk Wrabiutza, was starting to training DADs!  I of course jumped on the opportunity and contacted them right away!  I had always felt uncomfortable with the idea of getting a DAD from another state that cost $20,000. So now that I knew there was someone here, locally that would be around for support we were so excited.

So we gave them an application and on this past Monday Nevaeh met Maggie for the first time!!!  We actually went and watched her in action in public and then they came for a visit at our house!  Nevaeh was so overjoyed!  The meeting went well and they told us later that evening that they would love for us to be Maggie's forever home!

Maggie will cost $10,000!  So we will need to start raising money asap!  So any support and help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

With that being said we truly feel all of this happened for a reason at the right time because today while at the bank Nevaeh was feeling fine and happy.  Then the lady asked if Nevaeh could have a lollipop and I said sure and when I checked her blood sugar to give her insulin for the pop she was 35!!!  Not only is this really LOW it is so much more dangerous that Nevaeh did not have any symptoms and did not feel low!  I pray that this is just a one time thing but there are times when children with type 1 diabetes begin to not feel the lows anymore and that becomes very tricky and scary.  That is why this dog would help even more!  If Nevaeh does not feel a low her Diabetic Alert Dog would know she was low and alert us!

These dogs are LIFE SAVERS!!!
